After you have installed your Yale Assure II lock, follow the instructions to set it up for wifi. You will want to be the owner. If someone else is setting it up for you, have them send an invite to you as an owner.
The app is located on the Apple or Google apps page, it’s free. You are installing a Yale lock but Yale has partnered with August Home for their electronics. The app is called “August Home” in the app store.
After you have gone through the setup of the App and added the lock for the first time. Then you will want to do a few things as follows:
Invite “guest list”
Touch the icon of people at the bottom of the screen. It’s the third icon from the left showing people.
Tap the “invite” icon at the top left. The app wants to know if this is “app access” or “entry code only”. You will want to tap app access.
Time to invite Brian Logan by entering his telephone number: 228-669-3058 and hit the right arrow key. Next, enter his first and last name then touch the yellow arrow at the top of the screen.
on the “INVITE” screen that comes up, select the access line “owner”.
Use the back arrow at the top left and a screen with Brian’s name and phone number appears showing the access level as owner. Touch the “send invite” button at the bottom. That’s it for setting up Brian.
Why set up Brian as an owner?
Brian will be using the app to issue temporary codes to guests. Only the owner can do that. After he is set up, he will invite other Christies managers as owners as his backup.
Brian will set up a code for cleaners and other individuals such as contractors who need access more than once. Anytime a code is not needed, he will delete it.
You should be listed as an owner. Do not make anyone other than your spouse or someone who is in joint ownership an owner. We need to maintain control over issuing codes.
Guests
Before you finish this process, you should create a code number for yourself in the event you forget your phone. Do this by clicking on your name. Sometimes the system will insert a code, and change it to anything you want.
If you have family members who will be using the property, assign codes to them as well. Try to keep the number of codes to a minimum to make it easier to add guest codes.
Battery life
Battery life on this lock is good. As with every battery, the life depends on many factors such as usage, temperature, difficulty of the lock to engage, and more. Anytime you visit the property, check your app and if the battery life is below 50%, change the batteries.
If you install batteries, use high-quality batteries. Never use lithium or rechargeable batteries as they will void the warranty.
These locks require a lot from batteries and when they get below 50%, the lock will become sluggish. Some guests will become impatient and try to force the door before the lock bolt is fully thrown. Christies attempts to replace the lock batteries before they fail.
One main reason for selecting a lock with a key, particularly for a condo with one door is because batteries will die before we can get there. This is why placing a lock box by the door with a key is the fallback position.
Christies does not include the cost of batteries in the service fee. Periodically you will be billed for batteries, perhaps once per year.
Electronic access
Even the best locks and this is one of the best, will lose wifi connection from time to time. It’s frustrating when we can not gain access from a distance to change the code. Fortunately, this lock also has Bluetooth which means when you are standing in front of thth edoor, it will react to your app.
On occasion, a guest or perhaps even a cleaner will unplug the router or there is an electrical outage. The lock should automatically regain access to the internet but there are times when this does not happen and we have to reconnect it while on site.
