Attending a Mardi Gras parade is an exciting thing to do on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  Many people think that Mardi Gras is exclusive to New Orleans.  That is not true, there are Mardi Gras parades from Mobile in the East through Louisiana.  The Mississippi Gulf Coast has a long history with French culture.  The first Europeans to land on the Coast were from France.  The custom of Mardi Gras started in Mobile and spread throughout the Mississippi Gulf Coast and into Louisiana.

MARDI GRAS KING AND QUEEN

Arrive early for the parade you have selected.  It’s usually cool and cold in February when the parades generally occur.  Activities are completed by Ash Wednesday.  The weekend just before Ash Wednesday is the most active.  If you miss a parade in one City, go to another.  Don’t forget the special parades such as the Krew of Barkloxi for dogs in Biloxi.

Don’t forget the food. Mardi Gras brings out special foods that are not typically available during the remainder of the year. Check out our article on this topic
